If I may be allowed to resurrect this thread...
Picture dumpy, short me..
On a varsity volleyball team in highschool.
...Yep. As a Starter. I was *that* damn good.
Also, Tennis.
But seriously. VOLLEYBALL. <3
Nevermind the fact that I couldn't spike anything, I had a serve that could knock teeth out. It has.

I use to do competetive skiing. I was on my high school racing team for alpine skiing. 5th (and last) racer on the varsity team.
It was fun. I miss it.

My freshman year of high school I was a tackling dummy.
More specifically I was on something like the fourth string offensive line, and rarely saw more than a play on the field. But I got hit a lot, because there was another guy on the team who was basically acknowledged to be the biggest, strongest, meanest guy there. He'd knock paint off the other team's helmets every game and was explicitly forbidden from tackling our first stringers in practice. Nobody else wanted to go up against him, so they'd always juggle the line to make sure they weren't up against him when we did hitting drills. I always ended up against the guy.
Every single time, I'd go full force at him, and every single time he'd knock the everloving crap out of me. I don't think there was a single hit I didn't end up flattened. But every single time, I got back up without so much as a complaint and get back in line, and hit him again. Ended up friends with the guy, and found out a couple decades later the rest of the team had huge respect for me because I was willing to take the guy on.

Volleyball, played with six players, court style, is one of the most fulfilling games I've ever played. A good team can rescue almost any ball, and knows each others strengths and weaknesses and plays them to their fullest.
It's such an amazing game, I love it so much.
