Did you write the tile image generation yourself or picked up an already existing project and shoehorned it to your needs? Curious to the algorithms used to determine the topmost visible parts of the chunks to render them as tiles.
Being a software developer myself, this thing relevant to my interests.

Tectonicus is the mapper/tile-renderer. The source code is not public. Tectonicus is written in Python.
The map viewer is Google Maps and written in JavaScript which I modify to add functions (for example the URL to share maps) or the style.

I dont think it checks for the top-most blocks.. because it renders the world as it is ingame so the whole chunks and then makes a screenshot of them I believe.
Top most blocks would only work for top down 2D maps.
