Going to be interesting times ahead with stem cells and research in cybernetics. And ethics too, there been a few cases of people who been blind for most of their life but regained their vision after surgery. Such people usually have very poor understanding of room and distance, having a hard time to see if a object is large or just close up, like some formerly blind man who was scared at seeing flying birds, cause he thought they were huge.

As a sidenote, scientists already managed to make cyborgs (there is a robot controlled by rat nerve tissue, googled for it). Scary how well it works too, but the research helps the disabled.

Well most doctors and researchers have come up by the use of fibre optics that are thinner, more faster and more firm for revolutionary vision. Those Fibre Optics are useful as spy cameras that can penetrate through tiny gaps at a diameter of approximately 1.5mm, as most of you may already knew. But for the retinal implant, the photosensitive metal layer can be organic friendly from rashes or static that may cause some side effects.

Some of the soldiers that been blinded from the battle of Iraq to provide some accessibility and to recover from their disability.
