It's more of a congress thing on the funding...

For those of you who could not see LCROSS hit the Moon, don't worry. Nobody saw anything.
The Centaur and LCROSS hit the Moon as planned, but there was no visible plume of ejecta. LRO picked it up, so debris were thrown out, but nobody saw a big plume as predicted. Kind of a letdown except the science we got was pretty damn good, and the Mission Management Team isn't concerned as to why there were no fireworks, focusing on what LCROSS found, hopefully water.

Gentlemen...
This is nothing new actually. NASA has been crashing things into the Moon since the 60's, and they're not the only ones. In fact whenever a Sat is sent up to the Moon, it usually end's it mission by crashing into it.
And IIRC, NASA is sending something else to hit the Moon next year.
