What is it about this game that causes so much Anger?

I was given the role of the Tank at the end of No Mercy... and spawned in the open, right in front of a manned minigun.
"Oh hello stingybullets and molotovs. Vot's that, sandvich? Record time for quick Tankdeath? You betcha."

Question.. Am I wrong for seeing L4D as similiar to Mario party? A game not for winning but for fun? Team fortress i can see as fun and competetive. But Left For Dead? I just cant. Maybe its the fact your playing against computers with players instead of just directly players.
