Should Pyros Have To Aim To Ignite You?

Discuss TF2! Or don't. Whatever takes your fancy.

Truthfully I liked the pyro before the latest update valve put out...he was perfect then. Now so many W+M1 Pyros are plaguing the server..
I kissed a horse and I liked it.

Reall,y this. If something can be done that doesn't negatively or only marginally effects good, vet, and pro pyros yet shows a distinct decrease in effectiveness for newbie pyros, or took the effort veteran pyros put into him to be good (like the effort required to be a great scout, gotta be one of the more if not most challenging class to kill as and live to tell about it) then we'd see him used less spam-like. 275 days, and pyro fest is still going strong... I think that's the most aggravating thing of all. Every 4 to 5 people seem to be pyro at minimum after all this time.

I adore playing the Pyro, especially in close quarters maps, and watching burning people panic and backpedal and spaz out before collapsing and giving up the ghost. :3

As mentioned elsewhere, I also love blowing Pyros up and/or gunning them down, especially when they:
    (A) Forego a near certain kill of sustained flame for a risky Axtinguisher kill...and are themselves killed for their gamble.
    (B) Go W+M1 straight into a well-placed sticky or pineapple or hail of gunfire or Blutsauger needles
    (C) Blind themselves with their own flame and fail to see me side-strafing them with a melee weapon aimed for their skull.

Pyros: Probably my all-around favorite class that I don't play often!

I killed a undisguised spy (litterally he hadn't even stabbed anyone) and pointed out that disguising DOES help slightly. He promptly told me that I should play a class that requires aim.

I've played pyro since before the patch and trust me it is not w+m1. As stated 90+ times in this thread :P

Is he easy to pick up? Yes, but so is soldier. Does he require actual practice to master? Yes like every other class.

Just imagine what is was like BEFORE they added the sizzle sound to let you know you were actually hitting :P IT WAS MADDENING!

Pyros are frustrating as spy, but they're also easier, IMO, to get away from than, say, soldiers.

Pyros don't get stabbed often. Spies generally avoid them; so for this reason, they don't typically watch their backs.

They have a tendency to charge like bulls after prey, if they're convinced they'll win, so it's SO, SO, SO EASY to cloak, and double back to get away from them.

Whereas soldiers are like

NOPE YOU WENT THIS WAY HAHAHAHA

And even if they miss you by a mile, splash damage + flicker + second rocket.

Unless it's Doom. Then he'll inevitably decide to shoot random rockets, and somehow, his one crit rocket will seek me out, and kill me, when he doesn't even know I exist. D: FRAU SEEKING MISSILES!

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

I still see no problem with pyro as he is now. :<

The soldier is slow as hell and only holds four rockets for active shooting. He has his bigger cons to make him more balanced.

The detection is rediculous on Pyros. Sometimes the flame will hit people 20ft away, other times the flame will be all up in someone's face and they refuse to burn. Personally, I'd like it if crouching or something helped put out the fire faster. The after-burn is a bitch and you wouldn't think you'd stay lit for so long. Just stop, drop, and roll damn it!

Playing soldier, and playing pyro, I can safetly say...

I find it easier to kill people as soldier. :<

More HP, I may be slow but I can hit targets further AWAY, and usually kill things with just enough HP to waddle off toward a source of more health, and ammo.

As pyro I think I average 3-4 kills per life, maybe?

As soldier, that's considerably higher. D: I like...never die as soldier. Ever. Unless I'm purposefully suicide-running.

Although the ability to roll the flames out would be hilarious.

And not much of a nerf;

because they'd be vulnerable while doing this, and anyone could shoot them. :o

This.

It's so easy to kill as a soldier, it's not funny.
As a pyro, W+M1 is a kamikaze run - they kill someone if they're lucky, but no more luck than a crit rocket. To actually get sustained kills as a pyro, you need to get up close where heavier classes (especially other pyros) can destroy you if you mess up. Killing as a pyro doesn't take that much skill, but killing as a pyro and living to kill someone ELSE, now that's another story.

IMO it takes more effort and skill to get kills as a pyro than as a soldier, when pitted against similar odds.

The after-burn is what makes a pyro a pyro and not a faster heavy. His afterburn does sixty damage and it takes ten seconds for that damage to be fully realized. Find a medic, water, or any sized med-pack and the afterburn is done trust me.

As far as hit detection goes that just a bug in the game like face stabs. As a pyro if your moving side to side I have to aim six feet in front of you for my flames to connect. Soldiers can kill me very easily if I try to W+M1 them becuase they can juggle me and halt any momentum and at alot of ranges the Air Blast is hard to use because your basically trying to guess when the soldier will fire.

Also my a-s-d keys see a ton of use kthxbai.
