Server is not responding?

Literally, this is the most frustrating thing I've ever had unleashed upon me. When I go to connect to the US Eastern TF2 servers, it says "Server is not responding". Can someone help before I go to Steam's headquarters, put a tote lid on the CEO's face, and beat it until I don't hear the muffled screams of agony anymore?
