New Texture Stuff

The TF2Maps swamp theme, which is apparently part of a contest with prizes provided in part by Valve, and made with heavy consultation from Robin Walker. No indications that this will end up used in now-official maps, but it seems like a solid candidate for that sort of thing.
Plus, being as I live in a giant swamp, I'm kinda partial to it. Though the crocodile doesn't look right to be from around these parts (we have saltwater ones, you see).

Looks like a good resource but I gotta pass on even attempting a map like that since I've never even been to the Bayou.
I love the cooking from them parts but I wouldn't have the first clue how to make the scenery look natural.
TBH, the character models are what I'm more interested in. I was already decompiling some of them and playing around with 'em in 3dsMax (http://iller.protgp.com/gw/Pyro_3dModelsheet.jpg) (http://iller.protgp.com/gw/pose.png) ..Now VALVe's gonna release some extra stuff or make it so we don't have to go through all these stupid extra steps to get them into reference SMD's? I wasn't sure what they mean but I guess we'll find out soon.

These textures look...AWESOME!!!
I really hope we can maybe try some of these maps that win the contest at the end of the month out, maybe in a special one night maptest or something.. With how big a hit the "Glacier" textures were in the current test, I bet swamp ones would be an equally big hit. People really like new graphics to look at, and these look really well done...
Yay new textures! Down with bland deserts! In with Snow and Swamps!

Well at the moment the contest is simply detailing- put together an interesting vignette using the options made available. But yeah- I'm really hoping this gets used much the same way that Egypt did, and we get more variety. Or at least more stuff that's green.

Much the same way egypt did? I have yet to see any egypt based maps...at least off the top of my head...
Can you name some?

My understanding was the Egypt was originally a fan-created theme, and then made official. That's what I meant.

Ahhh! I did not know that, thats cool. I still havn't seen any Egypt styled maps though, which makes me sad, I really like that texture pack.

I've heard of a couple people working on them, but I've yet to see any. But then, I only play on TFP servers. So if you haven't, the likelihood of me seeing one is fairly small. About the odds of me clicking on the appropriate thread in the TF2Maps forum.
